CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Alicetaria February
AGE: unknown but she's described as a young woman rather than a girl so late teens to early twenties?
CANON: Re:creators

CANON HISTORY: wiki but it ends at episode ten. After that, Alicetaria is shown interrogating then forgiving and releasing her creator. It's unclear if she believes he values the world he created (he himself doesn't even seem to know at that time but later on it's clear how deeply he values Alicetaria and her world) but she does know that other people, like Sota, believe in the value of her world, and that seems to be good enough for her.

After this it becomes clear that her allegiance to Altair is withering, and while she never contacts the other side directly, they come to see her as a Trojan horse after her creator assures them that the Alicetaria he created would be planning a rebellion rather than going along with the plan Altair has laid out once she understands the plan more clearly. This proves to be true once the bird cage has been closed around the final battle. Alicetaria changes sides, ultimately choosing to use her enhanced powers to fight for Meteora's side. Unfortunately she still isn't strong enough to overcome Altair's ability to alter reality, and while she does succeed in goring Altair with her lance, Altair changes the effect of it so that Alicetaria is the one who is injured. The wound is critical and even though she reaches for Altair and tells her this isn't over, Alicetaria falls from her pegasus and dies, vanishing in a dissipation of blue pixels.

CANON PERSONALITY: Alicetaria is described by Meteora, the logical mage who acts as a sort of narrator for the story, as all muscle and no brains. This is not entirely true, but Alicetaria's motivations are not exactly thoughtful either. Even her creator acknowledges that at important moments, she's liable to fight herself into a corner because subversive tactics are simply unknown to her, and in a scene where she tries to manipulate a character whose power relies on her ability to twist the truth, Alicetaria's attempts at subterfuge are instantly seen through. Meteora likely describes Alicetaria the way she does because Meteora's skills lie primarily in defense, diplomacy, and intellectual approaches, but Alicetaria repeatedly dismisses these options as useless sophistry. Simply put, she lets her lance do the talking and it always says precisely what she means.

She and Selesia are both referred to in the series as knights but Alicetaria moves beyond the archetype of a knight and into one of a paladin, a crusader for her version of justice for whom right and wrong or good and evil are fairly black and white, eliminating the need for in depth analysis or decision making. Altair promises to help her save her own world by giving her the opportunity to force her creator to make it better, therefore the will of the creators is absolute, Altair is good and those who oppose her, no matter what their reasons, are bad. When she calls down a power to destroy something evil and it destroys the enemy in front of her, the enemy must have been evil and by opposing it she is good and just. She is quick to dismiss attempts at diplomacy or arguments against what she's convinced herself to be true, proceeding to combat as soon as her temper is roused.

Not having to examine her motivations is one of the 'perks' of being a fantasy protagonist. In worlds like those, it's easy to tell a dragon from a unicorn and which to trust. In the reality of Re:creators, it's not nearly so simple. This is one of the biggest changes Alicetaria undergoes during the course of her life in reality. Fighting Selesia should be an easy decision. Selesia is defending Meteora, who Alicetaria believes killed Mamika, so this is simple vengeance, good versus bad. However, when she actually appears to succeed in her goal and drives her lance through Selesia, she's visibly traumatized, unable to speak or even wipe the blood from her face. It's possible this is the first time she's violently engaged with another human being--the nature of the forces of the Unterwelt, the antagonists in her world, is never made clear, so it may be she's more used to killing nonhumans. Regardless, it's clear in that moment that even though she refuses to admit it, Alicetaria is affected by her own actions and flees the scene without finishing the task of killing Selesia.

In keeping with her sense of justice, Alicetaria is shown to be extremely protective of those she perceives as being innocent. In a scene from her own canon, Alicetaria of the Scarlet, she's shown specifically lamenting the death of a young girl in a village she was trying to protect. In the reality she's pulled into, it's Mamika who she grows fond of and it's Mamika's death that changes her motivation from wanting to force her creator to change her world to wanting to gain immediate vengeance. The fact that the vengeance dovetails with what Altair asks of her is convenient but Alicetaria's alignment with Altair was never especially strong to begin with. It's also obvious when she does finally confront Meteora while still believing she killed Mamika. What shakes her focus and creates an opening in her defenses is Selesia pointing out that compared to Alicetaria, Meteora is only a weak little mage while Selesia is much more her equal. From that point, Alicetaria engages only with Selesia, until she flees the scene.

Of course, Alicetaria is not limited to only fighting and preaching justice. When she's shown taking downtime between battles, it's almost always either with Mamika or alone. She's relatively soft spoken and unlike many of the other creations, she maintains a certain level of ignorance about the modern world they've been pulled into. The incident where she kidnapped her creator involved her riding her pegasus into a police station and brandishing her lance until he was presented to her. Beyond this, she's consistently kind to Mamika, who describes her as being like a granny, and she's civil to Blitz, another member of Altair's team. Her speech is polite and formal, befitting a princess, and her mannerisms off the field of battle are rather refined.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Alicetaria is a very powerful and skilled knight. Physically, she is capable of leaping great heights and distances, especially when she's able to get a running start. It gives the appearance of flight or charging without touching the ground, but that's just the extent of her physical power, she cannot personally fly. She can, however, summon a white horse with pink wings and that absolutely can fly. She can also summon a lance taller than she herself is out of thin air and can use this for jousting, stabbing, creating shockwaves, or batting ballistic missiles out of the air. While it's never shown, it's likely this same summoning and disappearing mechanic applies to her armor. Additionally, she possesses an artifact known as the Gauntlet of Gotz von Berlichingen, a huge gauntlet she wears on her left arm when she's wearing her armor. It's shaped like a dragon's head and can be used to summon a number of destructive spells, including a ball of purple lightning that can be utilized as either a single target spells or an area of effect one, and an army of faceless stationary warriors in the sky who are capable of firing powerful and precise lasers at her chosen target. Beyond this she possesses the capacity to assess situations from a military perspective, and field skills appropriate to someone who has been fighting without the benefit of civilization for much of their lives.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Alice Ritter
AU AGE: 22
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: The same as the series. The only significant difference is a tattoo on her left arm that looks essentially like this. The lower jaw starts just above the back of her hand and the horns extend nearly to her shoulder.

AU HISTORY:

*Born in Germany to a German mother and American father
*Father was a naval commander but left the military to work for a private military contractor (American based but allowing him opportunities to continue to travel, think Constellis), mother was extremely beautiful and refined and fell in love the the persona her father presented: charming, sophisticated, powerful
*Father also had a violent and irrational streak, was extremely paranoid and possessive of Alice's mother and, as she got older, Alice herself
*As soon as she was old enough to intervene between her parents, she did, wanting nothing more than to protect her mom
*During middle school, relocated in her from Germany to Japan because her father was assigned to oversee planning for Japanese antipiracy initiatives with private companies
*Struggled during her time there: Japanese was hard for her, she was taller than her classmates and very aware of looking different from them, and the nature of her home life made it hard for her to socialize
*Failed her first year in high school and was devastated. She tried to appeal to her mother to see if they could return to Germany but their household was dominated by her father and there was nothing her mother could do
*Her father arranged for her to be transferred to an extremely competitive and elite high school despite her struggles, thinking the challenging atmosphere might drive his daughter harder and also provide her with more appropriate skills than the ones she was most interested in
*Being surrounded by paramilitary types, she was never in want of someone to teach her how to defend herself. Some of them knew why, some just thought it was cute that this quiet, stone faced little girl wanted to fight like a boy. Either way, she learned from experts
*Managed to make a handful of friends finally in this new high school, including Baren Kaiyou (cleared with Dana on discord). Baren's support was instrumental in Alice managing to achieve any success in high school, since he was very smart and seemed to her to be more straightforward than many of their classmates. While the two of them were never deeply close due to each of them having their own reasons for hiding parts of themselves, Alice still considers Baren to have been her best friend in Japan
*Came to simultaneously enjoy and resent her time in Japan: while she appreciates the sense of order and work ethic she found there, the way people rarely say what they mean in favor of politeness and keeping the peace between each other was incredibly frustrating. It made her realize more about the kind of person she wanted to be, at least.
*Once the contract ended, Alice's mother decided she'd had enough of a husband who was rarely home and was violent when he was, so she served him with divorce papers and left to return to Germany. She begged Alice to come with her, but Alice said no. Someone had to stay with him
*This was what Alice had come to believe: if her father went alone, he'd inevitably find another target, but if she went with him she could keep him in line or at least keep him from marrying again through sheer force of personality
*Alice has not seen her mother in person since then and misses her desperately (and now she can't even call her, THANKS RETROSPEC)
*Stayed with her father through her last year of high school in the States, continuing her martial arts training and finally getting her father to stop hitting her when she nearly broke his jaw
*Still moved out as soon as she finished high school, coming to Recolle with nothing but what she could fit in her car and enough money from him to set herself up in a studio apartment
*Chose Recolle because she has family here, cousins on her mom's side with [personal profile] usurpers and [personal profile] godshand (cleared with both here)
*With a dog, Greta, a husky who is absolutely inappropriate for an apartment but too bad for everyone who is not Alice
*Still isn't really an academic type, spent a couple of years working to get on her feet, but continues to accept money from her father passively since it's really the least he can do
*Dated a little, resulting in a friendship with Jamie from a blind date that didn't pan out (here) and a longer relationship with Kiryu that ended amicably (here)
*Has an interesting relationship with her neighbors: she gets along well enough with Ibuki (here) but not at all with Lucas (here)
*Is currently working as a bouncer at Olivia's bar (here) while going to school part time to work toward a degree she can use as a police officer. She is an abysmal student, so this may take a very, very long time

AU PERSONALITY:

*Alice's sense of justice is much more personal in this au. She's not a defender of the world or a hero here, she's just someone who thinks that violent people, people who would lie or hurt others, criminals and bad guys deserve to meet justice. It means her perceptions are much less black and white and she does now take time to think things through. For example, canon Alicetaria would have zero time for either of her neighbors.
*She's still very suspicious of people who seem silver tongued but unlike in canon, she's more aware of the role her own intellectual limitations play in those suspicions. Of course she's not just going to come out and say she's too stupid to understand what's being said but she will take somewhat longer to get to, "Them's fighting words!" She's also more willing to endure that kind of speech and behavior from people she's already invested in. It's what allowed her to be friends with Baren and to have a relationship with Kiryu, who is considerably smarter than she is.
*Due to being raised around military types and not royalty, she's less refined than her canon counterpart. She's not especially coarse but she's no longer the woman who manages to delicately cross her legs while sitting on a broken wooden crate, either.
*Because she's lived in both Germany and Japan while being raised by an American and a German, Alice is more culturally savvy and adaptable than her canon self. In canon, Alice was not ever really able to integrate into the society she'd been pulled into. Granted, she didn't really try, but while she is not the only character to wear armor or other unusual clothing, she's one of the only ones who never puts on modern clothes, for example. She's not interested in integration. Recolle Alice, however, is very much interested in integration and wants to be seen as regular. It's entirely a self-perception issue.
